Milton's style in Paradise Lost has justly been described as the grand styles .The grand style is an account of the greatness of conception, the exercise of a rich imagination, arrangement of dignified words in an impressive and harmonious order and the use of certain technical devices produces an impression of vastness in the reader's mind.

Gothic literature is often described with words such as "wonder" and "terror" that provides the suspension of disbelief. The setting of most early gothic works was medieval. The name of the genre refers to the gothic architecture of the European Middle Ages, which characterised the settings of early Gothic novels.

Renaissance means re-birth. from about 1500 to 1600 the world was reborn in many ways . The Renaissance began in italy, especially in art and architecture, in the fifteenth century. In England there was an important change in religion and politics as a result England became the most powerful nation in Europe in the late sixteenth century 

In the 18th Century conventional and artificial diction was employed and a particular meter that is Heroic Couplet was thought to be the best meter for writing poetry. The romantic poets wrote deeply personal poems , revealing their own nature, feelings and thoughts.
